Maritime Structures & Modifications

Structural integrity through engineering detail.

Structural design support that connects engineering requirements with practical steelwork and vessel arrangements.

Marine structures must fit their intended duty and the reality of the vessel around them. Equipment foundations, platforms, supports and local structural modifications have to be understood in relation to load paths, clearances, welding access and the surrounding arrangement. Capybara Dimensional supports maritime and offshore engineering teams with structural CAD development, steelwork detailing and technical documentation for new designs and modifications.

Our role is to turn defined requirements and available structural information into coordinated models and drawings that can be reviewed by the project team. We work from client specifications, relevant reference material and agreed design criteria, with clear attention to dimensional accuracy. Where strength calculations, classification review or independent approval are required, the scope and responsible engineering authority must be established explicitly rather than assumed.

Our Capabilities

Structural solutions built around
real operating conditions.

From local supports to larger steel arrangements, we focus on documentation that makes structural geometry, connections and responsibilities understandable.

01

Structural Design & Analysis

Develop structural concepts and detailed arrangements using the loading information, geometry and design criteria provided for the assignment. Models can illustrate member positions, potential load-transfer paths, connection areas and important interfaces. This supports design discussion and coordinated detailing. Formal structural assessment, finite element analysis or approval calculations are included only when specifically agreed and supported by suitable inputs.

02

Steel Structures & Frameworks

Model and detail brackets, equipment supports, access platforms, frames and other steel components for maritime applications. Attention is given to connection geometry, available space, fabrication access and the relationship between steelwork and installed equipment. Depending on the scope, deliverables may include 3D assemblies, arrangement drawings, detail views and supporting information for fabrication planning.

03

Structural Modifications

Support the development of structural changes to existing vessels and offshore equipment. Existing steelwork introduces uncertainty: drawings may be outdated, modifications undocumented and access constrained. We compare the proposed arrangement with available reference data, record design assumptions and prepare coordinated drawings for review. Any required site survey or verification of as-found dimensions is identified before dimensions are treated as confirmed.

04

Engineering Verification

Review drawings and models for dimensional consistency, obvious interface mismatches and alignment with project information. This can include checking references across related sheets, identifying missing details and preparing revised engineering documents. Such coordination reviews improve clarity, but they do not replace a separately specified strength assessment, independent design check or classification approval.

Our Approach

Structural design grounded in
practical application.

Structural engineering work benefits from a disciplined sequence: understand the intended duty, assess the information available, develop the arrangement and document the interfaces. We consider installation access, adjacent systems and the effect of proposed steelwork on the existing layout. Where a requirement or source dimension is uncertain, it is recorded for the client rather than being presented as verified fact.

The resulting CAD package is prepared to match the review and implementation stage of the project. That may mean early coordination layouts, more detailed steelwork drawings or revised documents for an agreed modification. Design calculations, weld specifications, material selections and regulatory approvals are coordinated with the appropriately appointed specialists as necessary. Our aim is to make the engineering information understandable, traceable and ready for the next responsible decision.

01

Technical coordination

Interfaces, load assumptions and reference information are clearly identified.

02

Practical detailing

Steelwork is developed with fabrication and installation access in mind.

03

Reliable deliverables

Coordinated drawings support technical review and revision control.

Working Together

Structural information worth working from.

Accurate inputs are essential to useful structural output. Depending on the project, these may include general-arrangement drawings, existing steel plans, equipment loads, material specifications, photographs and survey measurements. We make gaps visible early so that the client can prioritise what must be measured, confirmed or calculated.

A typical handover can consist of editable steelwork models, arrangement and detail drawings, interface notes and a documented revision status. The agreed package is tailored to its audience: design reviewers, project engineers or the teams preparing fabrication and installation activities.

If you are preparing a new equipment support or a local structural modification, a useful brief includes the intended function, available loads, existing structural drawings and installation constraints. We can help define the CAD and detailing work that follows from those inputs. Any engineering calculations or independent approval requirements should be agreed separately with the party accountable for structural integrity.
